DC_LS165 Dodge City, KS Fri May 17, 2013 USDA-KS Dept Ag Mkt News Kansas Direct Feeder Cattle Summary Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 05/17/2013 Receipts: 4850 Last Week: 3554 Year Ago: 4527 Compared with last week: Not enough current sales of Medium and Large 1 steers and heifers for an accurate market test, limited sales steady. Summerlike weather abounded around much of the state this week with record highs of 100 degrees making its mark on Tues. Hot temps were accompanied with gusty 40-45 mph winds making for dusty conditions for both man and beast, neither of which is needed for the state already dealing with significant drought. Western parts of Kansas are in extremely exceptional drought levels. Sales confirmed on 2543 steers, 890 heifers and 1417 calves for a total of 4850 compared with 3554 last week and 4527 last year. Volume includes 71 percent 600 lbs and over; 29 percent 600 lbs and under and 56 percent contracted cattle. Feeder supply 82 percent steers and 18 percent heifers. Unless otherwise stated prices are FOB weighing points with 2-3 percent shrink or equivalent and a 5-10 cent slide on calves and a 3-6 cent slide on yearlings from base weights.
