May 23, 2013 (REPORT 21) WESTERN EUROPE INFORMATION GATHERED 05/13/2013 - 05/24/2013 U.S. DOLLARS PER METRIC TON, FOB PORT WESTERN EUROPE BUTTER/BUTTEROIL: European butter prices are mostly steady to trending slightly lower at the top end of the range. Relative pricing points have stifled buying interest to some extent. There is a good demand for butter from locals account, yet a steady, but light steam moving into export channels. Packaged butter demand has been good for domestic business. Private Storage Assistance (PSA) butter intakes through May 12 total nearly 38,000 MT. The volumes are running about half the levels of a year ago. The current pricing levels and fair to good sales are reasons for the trend. Butter production is seasonally active and building where more cream is moving to butter facilities. European butteroil prices are slightly lower on the top end of the reported range.
