QA_GR110 New Holland, PA Mon, May 20, 2013 USDA Market News Pennsylvania Weekly Grain Report - Lewisburg, PA The market information listed below is collected through the USDA Quality Systems Assessment (QSA) Livestock Auction Market Reporting (LAMR) program under the supervision and oversight of USDA Livestock and Grain Market News. Compared to last week, corn prices were up 10-20 cents per bushel over last week. Bases are holding mostly around 50-80 cents over the July for southeast, PA; 50-75 cents over for central, PA; and flat to 25 over for western, PA. Beans were higher in the eastern and western ends of the state, but mixed in the central regions. Several grain buying locations in the central region of the state have been priced out of the market and are expressing little demand for beans, finding other protein sources to balance feed rations. Planting progress in Pennsylvania has been moving at a rapid pace, with NASS reporting that 70% of the corn acreage has been planted, 10% higher than the 5-yr average. Nationally, corn planting is at 71% complete as of Sunday in the 18 key production states. This is 8% behind the 5-yr average, but a huge leap from the 28% planting progress from the week before as farmers make up for lost time caused by rain delays. Strong to Severe thunderstorms will be moving across the Midwest this week from Oklahoma to Minnesota and will most likely slow progress as farmers try to wrap up corn planting. Soybeans continue to lag as corn has been taking priority for time and equipment. Only 24% of the US Soybean crop has been planted in the 18 key production states, 18% behind the 5-yr average. USDA' crop progress report was viewed as neutral, although planting came in slightly higher than some private estimates. All grain and soybean prices are quoted per bushel delivered to the mill or elevator. Basis reflect last Friday's CME close against Monday morning's cash bids.
