SJ_LS831 St. Joseph, MO Fri May 17, 2013 USDA Market News Service Central U.S. Daily Direct Feedlot Slaughter Cattle Report as of 3:55 pm Today's Reported Sales Volume: 23,000 Today's Estimated Sales Volume: 46,000 Trading was moderate to active on moderate demand in Kansas. Live sales were .50 to 1.00 lower than last week at 125.00-125.50. Trading is light to moderate in Nebraska with live sales steady to 1.00 lower with sales ranging from 125.00 to mostly 126.50. Dressed sales have traded steady to 1.00 lower at 201.00-202.00. Iowa has a limited dressed trade at 200.00-202.00. The Texas Panhandle traded close to 7,000 head Thursday 1.00 lower than the previous week at 125.00. Daily cattle slaughter was estimated at 125,000 for Friday, and 31,000 for Saturday, for a weekly total of 652,000. The last time the weekly slaughter reached the 652,000 level, was in August of 2012. Boxed Beef cut-out values this afternoon were called weak on Select and firm on Choice on light to moderate demand and light offerings. Choice closed up .74 at 209.51, and Select closed down .40 at 192.31 on 108 total loads. The Choice cut-out rose steadily this week culminating in a record high at the week’s close. It was noted in the National Carlot Meat Trade Review that the increase has been seen throughout the entire carcass with only one individual item setting a daily record Thursday - Choice flap meat at $520.13.
